I need to know who is the manufacturer of the HDD...if it is Seagate, then
I think I might have an idea how we may be able to stop QuickRestore CD's
demolition squad in its tracks, and make sure that our partitions remain
protected against this "illegal infiltration a la Kargil"....(this is just
an idea, so don't get too hopeful :)
An UMSDOS installation....geez! I haven't done that sort of installation
since my early Slackware days...and IIRC, the RedHat 5.0 manual strongly
suggests against a UMSDOS install....the strongest reason against an UMSDOS
install is that apart from the performance hit, should your Win9x
installation manages to trash itself sometime in near future...(it has
happened to ppl before ;), and you have to format the HDD and do a fresh
install...then all those hours spent in configuring and fine-tuning Linux
will go down the drain...DON"T EVEN THINK ABOUT DOING AN UMSDOS
INSTALL...sheer madness if you ask me.
Cheers,
--Indra.

I fully agree with the points you've raised. But the question is,it's not
my machine and I've been asked to try and install Linux on it.
