Hi all,
As planned before, Arup & I went over to Astral today, to setup the Linux
server meant for Linux-Interact '99. Today we had a good progress, unlike
Sunday when many things hadn't gone much to our liking.
Redhat 5.2 was installed again from PCQ march '99 CD. Next, the kernel was
updated to 2.3.10 (although we had the 2.3.11 & 2.3.12 patches with us we
didn't apply them...maybe some other day :). The network connectivity was
the next to be configured. The latest WindowMaker (0.60) was installed &
configured. We tweaked the XF86Config file & managed to push up the moniter
to its maximum resolution & refresh rates. The display is now quite
satisfactory...but I guess JPM will complain that the default font size is
too small *grin*
Next we attempted to pull in the latest Enlightenment from the CVS servers.
Unfortunely, we couldn't make any headway as the servers were down -- RAID
failure, maintainence & repairs going on ...grrrrrr #$%^@&!
We then conected to the GIMP CVS, and started to pull in the latest source,
as the snapshots were too old, the latest one available was from
99/05/20..Since it made no sense to sit at the terminal while GIMP got
d/led...we went back to install the JDK, Apache & Jserv..... we couldn't go
ahead with the Apache/Jserv compile as the some of the sources were on a
local machine which didn't have LILO on it & the person (Hitesh of Astral)
using it didn't have the boot floppy with him today.
We could have made a bootdsk from another m/c, but as the clock was ticking
its way towards 8:30 PM, we thought of calling it a night. We plan to do
back another day for the next round of installation & configuration.
Cheers,
__Indra
PS. Arup named the server Bladerunner :D
