Subject: [LI] [COMMERCIAL] Update on PCQ Linux Issue
Date: Saturday, September 18, 1999 9:33 PM

(Resend because the first one didn't make it past the crash)

Hello Linux India:

Many of you here have been asking about the next PCQ Linux Issue. Some of
you may recall my saying that PCQ's waiting for a specific thing to happen
before getting a fix on this.

Well, what PCQ was waiting for to happen - happened. ;-)

The final PCQ Linux issue of the millennium will be out on the stands on
November 1st, coinciding with Bangalore IT.COM 99, and the PC Quest User
Choice awards in the same week (also at Bangalore). PCQ will also be
present at Bangalore IT.COM, and as it befits its supportive stand towards
Linux - it will have its presence only in the Linux Pavilion. (Separate
announcement regarding PCQ's participation in the Bangalore IT.COM Linux
Pavilion to follow).

As it is traditional with PC Quest since the first Linux issue in 1996,
here is the open call to potential contributors in terms of articles for
the issue. As you know, PCQ encourages people to write - in fact, this is
what brought me and many others into the fold. PCQ's Linux Initiative is a
classic example of something that is and always has been community driven.

If you are interested in being part of the biggest PCQ Linux issue of the
century, please write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a synopsis of your
proposed article. This will allow PCQ to co-ordinate and optimise projects
and articles. (Note: Before you jump in - please spend some time looking
at the articles at http://www.pcquest.com/linux so that you know what has
already been covered, and identify topics that have *not* been covered so
far).

If you ever wanted to write for PC Quest - here is your chance. But be
aware that the issue closes in the first week of October as far as
articles are concerned, so procrastination and day-dreaming will get you
nowhere. ;-)

I am looking at the pre-final cut of the CD for that issue even as I
write. Content-wise, it makes PCQ's previous Linux CDs look like used
beer-mats. It also makes the datum-level March 99 CD look like an unstable
house of cards. ;-) PCQ's usual beta-testers (you know who you are) will
have it in their hands by end of this week. Many thanks to the tons of
people on this list who wrote in with suggestions on what to put on the
CD. Looks like we managed to cover most of your requests - if not all of
them (and then some ;-)

Atul
