The trouble is - there are umpteen chipsets available in the market- go by
chipsets, not by name. Now a days PCI cards are creating new headaches. Since
Linux does not init PnP Sound Cards, configuring IsaPNP and running
sndconfig used to be enough to run any ISA sound card. However , PCI Sound
cards have created a new series of heartburn as They get configured by Linux
at startup but cannot run due to lack of drivers . I did start upon a Howto
for configuring ISA PnP cards for the Yamaha OPx / OPx SAx and ESSxxxx
series , but had to go slow as I am still in the process of testing it out
on more than 7-8 cards before I release it. If you can setup OPTi cards, pl
tell others how u do so and check that your results are reproducible. Once
that is done maybe we could get together and release some write up for the
benefit of Cal users?( provided a need is felt)
