I use Linux on HDDs set to both NORMAL and IDE and they all work. But
I'm talking of 2GB disks at most. I haven't tried anything bigger yet.
BTW, what kernel release are you using? A very old one (earlier than
2.0, say) may perhaps cause trouble with such a large disk.
