Hi,
I would have rather preferred not to speak about the saga of how the money for the
domain registration was raised.
Darshan is wrong about the time it took to raise the money. It took 2.5 months and an
enormous amount of coaxing,
cajoling, 'n' number of repeated mails, phone calls and personal visits by me. Those
who are familiar with the
procedure (as it used to be) of registering a domain name with Network Solutions will
understand how much time it took
to raise the money from the fact that we recieved the Invoice, the Final Notice _and_
the Deactivation Notice as
well!!! (For those who don't, a grace period of 75 - 90 days was allowed to make the
payment for the domain after
having registered it).
The decision to have for our own domain was taken in a proper democratic fashion that
befitted a LUG. Yet when the time
came to pay for it, some of the people who had voluntarily pledged to contribute
towards the domain registration
payment drew back from their pledges. It was rather unfortunate. The only reason why
we still managed to go ahead was
that yet others choose to come forward and make contributions that helped us overcome
the shortfall.
About the current thread, I am watching it, I will respond to it shortly. IMO, some of
my comments have been
interpreted incorrectly, and I would like nothing better than to set that right. While
I agree partially with Darshan
that we are getting off-track, I also feel that discussion is necessary and trying to
brush issues that are, IMO,
integral to set the future direction of ILUG-Cal, under the carpet won't help.
