Hi guys ( n gals ),

I stumbled across some strange and interesting behavior while trying to
lock screen while logged in as root.
I was getting a message "locking not enabled" or words to that effect.
Further research brought to light the fact that for locking to work
xscreensaver must be running as the same user who is logged in. Finally if
you try to run xscreensaver as root for security reasons it changes itself
to run as nobody. The outcome of this is that root cannot lock the screen
using xscreensaver. Now I know many of you will say that you shouldn't be
logging in as root anyway and perhaps point out the uses of su -c
but the fact is it's often simpler and more convenient to install rpms etc.
graphically in which case logging in as root is the easy way out.
Cheerio Robin.
