Any of u tried Win Linux 2000? What r your opinions of it
???

I decided to give it a spin and thought that it would revive
memories of my earliest install off 4 floppies as UMSDOS (
As were the subsequent Slackware ones...). It IS a UMSDOS
install but alas it is for the crowd who swear by
I-luv-LINUX-coz-all-the-mags-write-about-it-but-I-want-2-start-it-by-double-clicking-inWin9x

To it's credit the distro goes fine (takes 331Mb for FULL
install) until you install it in D: ( for that matter
anything other than the recommmended c:\linux.... ) Oh boy !
Things grind to a halt and starts going into "Kernel Panic"
!!! I discovered that no matter WHERE I install it, loadlin
is always pointed at /dev/hda1 !

Install options are VERY simple to say the least. Full,
typical and something which promises misery and less space
!!!! No expert mode (YUK!!)

No CLI for you !!! KDE starts off after a LOT of HDD
grinding and voila ! Guess what, it even allows you to have
a root password as null (If u'r lazy press enter to become
SuperUSer !!! Awesome sense of (in)security ) .... First
thing one must do is have a go at the /etc/initab and get
back to CLI and sanity !!

Windows champions won't notice the diference.... X11Amp ( a
VERY buggy version ) runs ok and so does most other things
via a few mouse clicks ! X11Amp even shows Long File Names (
mine in RH shows fancy and coy garbage...ALWAYS !!!)

lxdoom refues to install as the rpm says it need oodles of
stuff (which are need but not there!) and xdoom compiles and
then also asks for other things !!! And then just dies !!!

It is the safest bet for the greenhorms to jump on the linux
bandwagon but anyone else be prepared to say Tsk !Tsk ! and
puke....
