Dear members,
I am in concurrence with Indra and the rest of you who think that
the nature of mail put up by a new Linux enthusiast is not really
compliant with the unwritten regulations of the list. I discussed the
matter with Riddhi in some detail and I feel that this person should be
politely made to understand that owing to the diverse backgrounds of the
members on this list, he should exercise restraint when it comes to
spewing words. The mailer's intentions and emotions, however
well-meaning they may be, really falls short of expected standards of
discretion.
However, I believe,rather than publicly reproving the mailer, he
should be taken into confidence, preferably by the Admin or some other
senior member and made to understand his mistake.Let us not be too harsh
on him because as his mails amply demostrate,this guy has a long way to
go as far as maturity and exposure to netiquette is concerned. I am
sure,being a Linuxite, he will not repeat his performance.
The final authority, however, resides with the List admin.
Aside : Free Speech versus decency on a Linux list will be a
spicy topic for flame wars , especially in the light of the Cathedral
model.. sez what people ? We had something like this a day ago on
LI.Pretty fun while it lasted.. sometimes breaks you out of the monotony
of find /tmp -exec -grep "foo*" --with-filename '{}' ';'
