MediaGX from Cyrix (bought out by Taiwan based VIA
Technologies) incorporating multimedia & system functions right
on the CPU. Thus helping PC manufacturers deliver systems at a
very low price point. With limited to no options for upgradation, bulk
of these CPUs were used to build very low-end multimedia capable MS
Windows machines.
AFAIK, although it will run Linux you are likely to have trouble getting
video & audio to work properly on it... According to
http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Hardware-HOWTO-13.html audio
isn't supported on MediaGX... you can check up for OSS support though...
BTW, do check out the Linux-India archives for detailed threads on MediaGX
from lists.linux-india.org
