The current core group constitutes of:
1> Arup Kanjilal;
2> Darshan Shah;
3> Indranil Das Gupta
4> Mr. J. P Mathew;
5> Mr. Malay Mitra
6> Prof. Partha Pratim Ghosh;
7> Dr. Ranjan Ray;
8> Shanker R. Swaminathan.
FYI the core group have been holding meetings on weekends in between, working quietly
on trying to get the logistic support
in place in case ESR visit came through as planned. If it is of any interest Post
Mortem, we had managed to get corporate
pledges of sponsership to the tune of ~ 30K rupees.

Get this, unless we can start holding at least some sort of live demo using at least
one PC, we wouldn't get the audience nor
the interaction, somedays when we have to hold our meetings in the SXC staffroom we
don't have any black or whiteboard where
diagrams can be drawn to illustrate the points under discussion.
Those of you who have attended some of the earlier meeting have heard people complain
that all we do is talk. That we don't
have any demos. The LUG has sets of Linux CDs to itself, all laying with me since we
have no place to store them centrally
& I can't carry them to & fro for each meeting. Despite informing people about these
CDs, apart from a few nobody else have
bother to ask me for them, I can literally count the number of people who have made
use of this resource.
I used to bring my personal copy of current issue of the Linux Journal to the
meetings. After a certain fine gentleman walked
off with one of my copies, I stopped doing so. The fact that the mag was fairly
expensive bothers me little, rather I lost
something more important -- trust.
I can see how our discussions are turning in circles & getting nowhere. Shourya
re-raised the issue of subscriptions, I put
the question on its method of collection, & Rutvik came to the conclusion that we will
have to do with voluntary
contributions. Which is what we have been doing for so long anyway.
Get real people.... & get rid of this something for nothing attitude.... I know I
sound harsh... I mean to! We don't build up
something by doing nothing... let us look deep inside us & question ourselves why are
we here & where do we want to go from
here.... Do we really believe in Linux? Do we believe in open-source?

Nice point... only not every other institution is JU having similar resources at their
command. They don't need to come to
the LUG, rather as institutional members they can hold regular Linux orientation
courses in their computer labs in
collaboration with ILUG-Cal, what I am trying to say is exactly what Alok, Shourya and
others were discussing about taking
Linux to the schools.

Will give you the West Bengal Registered Societies Act, 1961... excellent bedtime
