With rehard to my earlier posts, I need to know if somebody
can help me with this....
Possibly someone with a strong electronics background...

With all the apps that I came across, the basic funda seems
to be in making the CASIO Digital Diary (which is TTL) talk
to the PC (thr a RS232 COM port...)....

This involves:

#1. Bringing some sort of parity in the voltage levels...
(RS232 I guess is around 5v)

#2. The actual data transfer protocols... (About which I am
in COMPLETE darkness... anybody know ANYTHING ???!!!)

About the first part:

.... There is a Maxim IC Family...... specifically the the
MAX233 & MAX233a ( Apart from the MAX232 & MAX232a ) which
does the job almost single handedly.... Apart from this 4049
also allegedly does this.... Anyone work with any of these
ICs ? 404x family should be pretty well known to the
electronic guys...

Nest comes the tricky part... making the beast talk to the
Linux Box.... this is where I REALLY need all the help I
can get from anyone who has done work with Serial Comm...

INIGO

p.s. Indra could you pl forward this to the Main ILUG List ?
I don't wether a non-member is allowed to post so.... If
someone does respond I can have a go at the archives or if
someone who is on the list forwards the messages to me and
then I could take it up with the ones who posted, in
private, for I am quite sure that MANY a member of this list
are already gnashing their teeth @ this thread !! And at the
same time I'm simply not equipped to handle the volume of
the main list.. TIA
