of a friend of mine who has aapplied for intership. This is not intended
to a Microsoft basher, just a flimpse for those who might be interested
and probably a viewpoint from somebody from our city. Uncut .

I left for the microsoft summer2000 internship interview to seattle
last thursday evening .
It was a 48 hrs stay there. I was staying at the the Residence Inn,by
Marriott ,Redmond Town center.Free food,taxi,lodging and flight !!!!!
what better treatment can one expect from a company that also for an
intern !!!
Well !!!! had thai,indian an italian stuff ... why not when its free
!!!!
made international calls to india worth $189 ...why not when its free
!!!!
Relaxed watching movies ,taking a long ride with my senior from kgp who
is presently at MS,can u guess mukul ?..... vinay ramani ..beta aish
kar raha hein !!!!he is into management .. sort of handshaker btween
management and tech in the VC++ group .
but the worst part was the interview : there were 4 interviews .. 1st
was HR ,2nd and 3rd was from the Windows 2000 group and the final from
the EXCHANGE group.And the only thing they asked was nothing but pati
coding !!!!total 5 questions on coding ..and they expect proper code
..like if i forget to put the ; after each line of C code then they
wwill say that u r wrong ..not joking..
i really got frust ... and the idea they gave me is this that all time
u will be coding and coding and nothing but coding.By the time the
interview was over I was convinced about 1 thing "at least not
microsoft "<they didnt ask me asingle question of compu funda .
I cant deny that its a big company with > 70 buildings ...like the VC++
group itself will have its own group .But all the tech guys do is
sleepless nights and coding... the salary is quite ordinary but there
are millionaires in the company just bcoz of stock options ... but in
smaller companies like yahoo,marimba u can earn even more with much
more relaxed stock options .
While discussing with vinay .he said that suppose there are a few days
left to shift a product and there r 8 bugs then they will fix 2-3 and
say that the product is bug free ---QUALITY ASSURANCE U KNOW ..
some of the guys employed there doesnt even have a degree in CS but r
well paid and are hoohaaaa coders ...
the whole city of REDMOND has developed bcoz of microsoft and a MS
employee there is highly respected .
Thats all i hadto say about the MS !!!! They will report to me about
the acceptance /reject in a few days but frankly its not the best place
to work neither do internship
