this happened with the older versions of lilo, which could not boot an
installation whose boot partition started beyond 1024 cylinders. i was under
the impression that lilo's 8-bit days were over and it no longer faced this
limitation. but apparently that isn't the case.
so what you have to do is install linux in the space where currently your d:
drive is, and reclaim for windows (which, i assume, is the other os you're
using) the later partition that you had previously assigned to linux.
that should do the trick if it's a lilo problem you're having.
