I apologize if, in the opinion of the readers, I
reacted too harshly -
though I do not think so.
It may have been misdirected against the individual,
as I do not know him
personally - but the wordings of the posts - even if
they mimiced
headlines - were getting progressively closer to that
of those, both here
and in India, who have other axes to grind. I
genuinely believe that "OT"s,
atleast this OT should be discontinued on this list.

My percived vehemence is perhaps, due to the disonance
between those who are
many thousands of miles from the incedent and one who
was in the basement of
the building less than 10 minutes before it collapsed.
 I attribute my
survival to sheer luck or an act of God, if such
things exist. I went to
donate blood later but was turned away as there was
not that many live
victims.

I have worked for more than 7 years at 101 Church
Street - one building over
from WTC. I have lived across the river from the WTC
for many years longer
and have passed through it many 100s of times. I have
at least two very
good friends who have not replied to emails and are
not repying to mobile
phone calls. I personally know at least a hundred
persons who work in the
area.

Today, the day after the incident, I walked to the
river - the edge was
sealed off by police and firemen - they were ferrying
victims, mostly
bodies, from the wreckage across the river. Smoke is
still rising from the
great void were the two huge building stood. A single
large twisted steel
structure, 10-11 stories could be seen from this side.
 Below was what
looked like a 6 story high pile of rubble - the
remains of the towers and
the other buildings that continue to tumble. It
looked, with the wafting
smoke, more like the set of a amature theater
production or a cheap movie
set than anything real.

I cannot say whether I "liked" the buildings while
they stood. But I still
find it impossible to accept that they are gone.

So, please let us drop the topic here.

Goodbye

Raja

p.s. : while the major TV channels are doing a fairly
responsible job - many
of the radio stations - (and perhaps the some of the
more sensationalist TV
channels) - are repeadedly broadcasting news of
"arab"(sorry, I could'nt
help it, for one more time) jubilations
