Thanks for replying Chayan. but the points are :-
1. my primary problem is.. neither i can install rh 7.2 freshly nor i can upgrade it from PCQ Linux 7.1. when i try to upgrade, it atleast goes to 75-80% and reports a bug and asks me to save it in a floppy unfortunately what i didn't have at that time (i'll try this out later). but in case of fresh installation it never crosses 30%. it terminates giving "signal 11" which, as much as i know is a software bug. i wont say the cd is corrupted b'cause i've installed rh 7.2 from the same cd successfully on p-III, p-II and even on a p-I 120 mhz cpu. all those systems belong to me i'm mentioning it to say that i'm very familiar with the hardware of the last mentioned 3 systems. p-III is a i810 mobo with onboards agp and ac'97 codec sound card which was seemed to be critical with rh 6.2. at that time as i can remember i made it working after a fresh kernel compilation. p-II is a via chip-set mobo with sis6215/6326 agp and ymf-724 sound card. which was seemed to be a crap with rh 6.2 (this configuration really gave me trouble to work with rh 6.2). but some how i managed it to work successfully. the p-I with 64 mb edo ram still works with rh 6.2/7.2. though its onboard s3 trio is pathetic with kde/gnome but works somehow with windowmaker. i even successfully made rh6.2 to work with a cyrix MediaGX. this processor and its concept was wonderful with windows, but for linux????? you can ask about it those who used it. not going into the details of other cpus (amd, cyrix, i386, i486) and linux version (older than rh6.2), i'ld like to say whats wrong with my original intel mobo D845WN, p-4, nVIDIA RIVA TNT2 and creative sounblaster platinum? the agp card is just below high quality, i just don't have enough money to buy a voodoo banshee. but what about the other two? while i'm successfully using rh7.1 with it for the last couple of months. it is absolutely fine. anyway some time with linux something always goes far above my dumb head. if you guys have any experiance ( _practically_) please help me out of this unexcepted situation.
2. i'm least bothered about win2k advanced server, though it runs absolutely fine with my p-4. i only use it when i feel playing games like Quake-III. yes!! believe it or not all of a sudden Quake-III made me think that computer gaming (mainly the above mentioned) _is_ an experiance and a good leasure. excuse me it seems i'm entering into a different world. let me come back to the main stream.... well my concern is to run win2k, _linux_ and _SOLARIS_8.0_ from the same hdd. let me mention that i've a 20gb quantum fireball. solaris 8.0 is successfully working with p-I 120 mhz from a single hdd with a cool x windows. i know it is possible to run window$ + linux from a primary hdd and solaris from a secondary hdd. once i tried, my procedure was absolutely correct, but some how started giving weired messages at booting. i couldn't take that risk cause my primary hard disk is containg 6gb of data, i can't dare to loose it. i've all most finished burning it on cds. only few documentations says that windows + linux + solaris can run from a single hdd but the process is very very critical. i'll check that out after buying a hard disk from chandni chawk footpath market. they sell hdd rs100/gb. you can try but burgain and luck is yours. ;p _i_know_it _is_off-track_but_if _ someone_can_practically_help_me_out_i'll_be_thankfull_to_him_
hope i can solve my problem of my own. i love to do that.
regards
ps:- chayan if you would like to _learn_ partioning a hard disk start playing with os/2 fdisk. cfdisk is very useful utility for partioning a hard disk on the fly from linux.
