> (though i use win2k for Quake-III only). well rex, why should this be the case? if you aren't running q3a under linux for some specific reason, then of course it's a different matter. but if you aren't aware of this possibility, then let me help you to save some space/botheration. linux is a great quake3 platform. if you have the original quake3-for-windows cd, then all you gotta do is get the latest point release from ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/quake3/linux/ (please check; i typed it from memory. the spelling of "quake3" might be incorrect). this is a 27-meg download. it's actually a shell script which, when run, installs q3a in demo mode on your linux system. in order to turn it into the full version, from your windows install of q3a take a backup of the file called pak0.pk3 and then you can say goodbye to windows. copy/softlink the backed-up file to /usr/local/games/quake3/baseq/pak0.pk3, and there you have it. Quake III Arena running in full mode in linux. of course, you'll need the cd-key from your original cd (?) ;-) . you might already have been aware of all this, in which case, sorry to have bothered you. but i hope thsi will give people one less reason to keep windoze on their computers. if you have any questions, write to me either on the list or privately (depending on the nature of the question, since we're talking games here... ahem!). if you can't do a 27-meg download, you may want to come over to my place with a spare hdd or a portable cd-writer and copy it off my machine. anything to help a fellow quaker/lugger!
