I don't understand why Mr. McOrmond is getting so fired up. Yeah, rajada is
making a valid point, when he writes as follows

>the missing portion of the quoted line is :

>"Of course, this is a hypothetical statement - the
>list owner has never indicated
>any such intention."

> > I will tell you this much. The less trust and

Valid point. But it doesn't hurt to call a spade a spade. To the contrary
sycophancy will do more harm than good.

>hmm .. good point .. for ALL the respect offered

PK jethu (if u don't mind me calling u so:) Don't be so hard on indrada. He
probably is tied up somewhere. But i do sometimes wonder, is indrada
regularly following the postings? I think it's time we met and decided on
our next course of action, especially w.r.t. the website, delegation of
duty and formalisation as an organisation.

>this is great .. your respect for the 'owner' is
>like the rock
>of gibralter .. good work .. keep that up .. even
>if we don't
>get our web site .. even if we don't meet .. even
>if we don't
>take part in book fair/compass .. even if we don't
>have seminars/
>workshops, etc .. even if sarai.net guys come all
>the way from
>delhi and give a demo of LINUX things just 20
>meters from
>my house .. just because ilug-cal .. WON'T .. not
>that it CAN'T
>.. just WON'T

>can we get some respect back in return ..

>1. what ARE the so called long term plans that YOU
>indicated were under way
>2. what is the group all about
>3. what is the future of the web site

Umm, i must say i have to agree with the above points. Maybe, when the list
was small, no. of participants severely limited, would the present
structure of ilug-cal work. Now we have a number of enthusiastic
volunteers. I believe, we should meet somewhere, decide IN favour of
registering as a non profit organisation, and have a demarcation of duties
to those who are willing to devote some part of their time regularly to
activities of the group. And oh yeah maybe the organisation starts paying
for the domain name, for which indrada has so graciously paid for us till now.

Here's my take on what the lug should become in its effort to achieve its
goals:
1) register as an organisation
2) start paying for the domain name.
3) Delegate people for specific jobs for the organisation
4) Start to update the site regularly (u know i was disappointed when i
first saw the ilug cal official website, it was a big turnoff)
5) Prepare a schedule for meeting regularly (There is nothing like verbal
communication, the nuances and subtle hints which distinguishes a verbal
attack from light hearted banter and leg pulling)
The fact that the organisation of the lug is formally and legally in one
hand (or maybe a small group) is an impediment. It is preventing the
planning and implementation of projects. We do need to identify the people
in the group who are willing to work for the organisation, and spreading
the duties would surely help. We cannot expect a person to be available for
the group all the time.
Hope the mail doesn't offend anyone
