I don't see this as relevant to the Indian market other than the fact that the more Lindows/Linux/etc users there are, the more FLOSS software will be written, and the more people will get hired to do so (and of course any sentence with the phrase 'more people' in it relates to India ;-) "
dear russell, somehow the massive walmart or dell -like PC makers are absent in the country. In the economies of scale it does really make a difference to migrate towards a Lindows like setup. But given the scenario over here, i doubt even box assemblers will be able to get people interested in it. Moreover, [and this relates to all software in general] the dollar values/foreign currency prices are rationalised vis-a-vis the Asian and [esp. Indian] market factors, piracy will be rampant. So will such a move eradicate piracy i doubt that. give someone a free toffee and you got someone hooked onto it. However things will change. By the way [i realise that on a Linux list this is inflammable], do you notice that with the release after release of Windows versions and flavors, the free/share toolsets-suites-utilities for Win9x are slowly drying up. It is like your valve radio set days. One day those users will have to migrate to higher platforms or be isolated...
