PROBLEM CONFIGURING SOUND CARD --
Hello, I'm Arun. I've created this mail account specially for
Linux-concerned
mail. I'm a
complete newbie to Linux, so, of course, Ive got the hardware
configuring blues.
I've got a ISA/PnP Yamaha OPL3 SA3 sound card. I'm using Red Hat
8.0. The first
time I ran it, it
detected my card and said that it had installed the necessary
driver. But - no
sound. When I
start my GUI (KDE), I get an error saying "Error While
initializing the sound
driver. Device /dev/dsp cannt be opened(No such device). The sound
server will
continue using the null output device." Also when I shutdown the
machine, in the
shutdown checkpoints, the saving of mixer settings FAILs
(obviously because
there is no sound driver).
How do I configure my sound card? Please help. I searched on the
net and found
out that the card actually is supported, but to get it to work,
you have to
mess around with the files in the /dev folder. Have to uncomment
out many lines
from a certain device driver file. I dont Know enough, so please
help me out.
