Not my place to dictate policy for the K-LUG, but I do agree with this
statement.

A *huge* part of the Linux and FreeBSD codebase has common roots (and
often is the same) - Linux and FreeBSD are essentially two implementations
of a FLOSS Operating System. And they are so interlinked today that one
probably wouldn't be able to exist without the other. They do not compete
in the Coke-Pepsi sense of the word, and if you ever needed an example of
complementary technology efforts, then Linux and FreeBSD would be it.

While the name "Linux" has enviable "branding" and name recognition, it
does not exclude other FLOSS technologies. A LUG should, therefore, look
at, and support, all FLOSS technologies (example - OpenOffice under
Windows, FreeBSD, etc.).

Just as a case in point - when you use openssh to securely conenct to your
Linux box, you are using technology that comes from the *BSD world. ;-)

p.s. Please don't use this message as an excuse for starting a "naming
terminology war" - with COMPASS just 11 days away, no one has time for
that. ;-)
