a posting on www.ciol.com opines : "The debate on Software pricing seems to be an issue arising out of the fact that in the EDP era, there was no price attached to the in-house resources who spend years developing the systems and thus there was no direct outflow against this head.
In today's context where custom development is an exception and licenced software is the norm, Business should look at comparable costs and CIOs should create metrics that outline the cost of development/acquisition and compare with the costs that a company may be incurring without a system to derive the ROI/TCO or whatever model the company uses to approve projects. What use is the Hardware without the software to any company anyway ? Any project/system has to be based on an expected benefit to the business. If none can be quantified (tangible or intangible) it is best to drop the project. Office Automation software cannot be willed away and that is the cost of doing business like the office space and telephone that is provided to the company's employees" - comments ? --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
