get into linux in the single user mode(during boot).
edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config (may be XF86Config-4 in some distros.)
in the file do the following:
1. Find the "Device" section
2. Change the Driver from whatever it is to "vesa"
3.save & quit
[as your graphics is not not working, the graphical boot will also not work].
NB: This worked on RedHat can't gurantee that it will work on Mandrake
