thanks for the info.
yes, eps is nice because for normal graphs the size is much smaller than
jpg, and you can edit the source and you can scale it without loss of res
etc. and they DO show up in the .dvi file.
MATLAB which I use for data analysis can export figures to .eps, so it all
meshes together nicely.

I sometimes need to go for jpg though because of the original format of
some graphic and the 'graphix' package handles this well, but the jpg
figure doesn't come out in the dvi, but is fine in the .ps or .pdf
conversions.

does anyone know if a newer version of xdvi or other dviviewer supports
displaying jpg ?
