Hmmm, Lots of egos flying like flags in the wind. Chips larger than tree trunks on peoples' shoulders.
Are you quite sure that this is the image you want to have of your LUG - no matter what *your* vision of the LUG may be? The golden rule in any LUG (or any kind of association or team effort, for that matter) is - "You earn the right to criticise only by participating" i.e. unless you are actually part of the process (and actively so), you have no right to say something is right or wrong *unless* you have actively participated and shown that your way of doing it works better than some other way. Most LUGs work around a core team of people who have the highest interest level, and who try to make things work. They are the ones who often face the brickbats if something doesnt work as advertised, but is this fair? Has anyone considered that without them, there wouldnt be a LUG to begin with? This flamewar I am seeing here is so pointless, it is laughable. You have no real points for or against anything. Something didnt work as well as expected - and it is time for heads to roll. But has anyone considered the concept of "learning experience"? Why is it so important to some people to use a "learning experience" as an excuse to be nasty, to criticise and to offend? Why can't one do a nice, cold analysis, avoid pointing fingers, learn from the experience and move on? Unfortunately, the larger an association becomes, the greater the politics. Take it from someone who has been there. This is because the audience grows larger, and we all know that politicians love an audience, don't we? "Divide and rule" is the only lesson they learnt from the British occupation of India. "Us and them" is the approved motto of the day. Get real, my friends, wake up from your stupour of rightousness, and stand back and have a look at yourselves. See what others who are silently watching get to see of ILUG-CAL. If you feel that you are being attacked by someone, ignore him/her, and maybe complain to the only person entitled to have a say in this - the listmaster. Now, just as an experiment, could everyone involved in this totally meaningless, ego-dripping and ugly thread please get off your horses and get back to doing what this LUG is supposed to be about - i.e. Linux and OpenSource? Thanks.
