Hello to everybody !
I am a new member - I subscribed immediately after the
meet/seminar organised by ILUG-CAL at our college, the Heritage
Institute of Technology. I have just installed Red Hat Linux 8.0 on my
computer, but I'm getting the following error messages just after
entering the user name and password :
(1) Error in starting GNOME Settings Daemon. The Settings Daemon
restarted too many times. GNOME will still try to restart the Settings
Daemon next time you log in.
(2) Nautilus can't be used due to an unexpected error from Bonobo
when attempting to register the file manager view server.
(3) There was a problem registering the panel with the
bonobo-activation server. The error code is : 3 . The panel will
now exit.
During installation, I had chosen fdisk for partitioning my hard
drive & everything went fine with help from one of my friends. I had
chosen 'Everything' under "packages to be installed". Also, I opted for
the 'Graphical' mode - how does one toggle between the graphical & text
modes ?
I would like to emphasise that myself and my college mates were
deeply impressed by the informal interaction that we had with you,
especially Sumeet (Mr.Sumeet Madhukar Moghe) , as also the presentation
on bootloaders given by Mr.Tathagata Banerjee ( I still can't believe
he's a Professor of English !! ) . Personally, I would definitely like
ILUG-CAL to have more interactive talks/seminars with students from
different colleges of Kolkata & reach out with this wonder called
GNU/Linux. I am hopeful of learning a lot from ILUG-CAL as are my
friends ( Anupam Baid is one, who is also a student of HITK and has
subscribed to this list recently ) .
Yours faithfully
