Hi somnath,
Sorry for not replying earlier. Well if you are facing
trouble trying to configure your internal modem in Linux,
then you're the rule rather than the exception.
First to be helpful at all, please tell me the brand and
more importantly, the chipset of your modem. For
instance, your modem may be of D-link (brand) and
having a Motorola chipset. What matters is the chipset,
since that will determine whether a driver for your
modem is available or not.
I'm one of those unfortunates who owned a Dlink
modem with a Motorola sm56 chipset. If this is what
you have, then buy or steal an external modem. I've
tried for hours to find drivers for the damned sm56
on the net, but alas...
However it is quite possible that you have other
chipsets for which Linux drivers are available
(such as Lucent,Connexant etc.). If so, youre in luck.

Tell me how it went.
