Hi all, Finally back in town again. The "International Summit on Localisation" organised by Ministry of Communication & Information Technology (MCIT) and MAIT-COILTech (Consortium for Innovation and Language Technology) between 8 - 10th Dec 2004 was a **good** show.
For the first time, Free/Opensource Community shared the stage at a *big* govt "DO". FOSS representation came from FSF-India, IndLinux (Hindi L10N), AnkurBangla (Bangla L10N), Rebati (Oriya L10N project), Sarai.net (Urdu/Hindi) and ofcourse from Redhat, SuSE/Novell and the big-daddy IBM. Together we managed to lobby and make a case for the F/OSS point-of-view for patent policies, universal access to information, open standards. CDAC-Mumbai is even looking towards an active engagement with Indian FOSS community for various ICT4D related developments. TDIL (DIT) -- the apex GoI body looking after Indic Language developments has invited concrete proposals for various projects that are need of support. This came straight from Dr. Om Vikas, Sr. Director, TDIL, MCIT. Finally the powers-that-be are ready to engage with us on a serious note! More on the conference in its report. cheers, --indra. -- ------------------------------------------------------------- Indranil Das Gupta, Project Lead, CASTLE Project [Computer Aided Studies, Teaching and Learning Environment] In collaboration with: West Bengal University of Technology Calcutta, INDIA www.wbut.net ------------------------------------------------------------- L2C2.ORG - Bringing Localized Low-Cost Computing to People ------------------------------------------------------------- -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the body "unsubscribe ilug-cal" and an empty subject line.
