I have used linux on a 486 but it was too slow to play
movies and MP3s and I would guess you'll need atleast
a 300 Mhz P-II for movies and all, I guess.

Use debian or slackware, these are the only two *full
features* distros that I can think of that would be
able to get the most out of that PC. Ok, before I get
flamed, gentoo is in a different legue all together
and might not be relevant here :)
