Oh! I did make it... It was pretty non trivial navigating around to Amar PC, but I made it and manned the Suse desktop for sometime... When I got there Prosun and Palash were manning 2 comps and it seems some water had fallen onto one of the comps so it was shutdown. The FC3's Hindi/Bengali display was an enormous crowd-puller and once I took up the Suse stall, Palash and Prosun had a field day handling the crowds. As for me, I think I can reasonably expect quite a few people I talked to join this mailing list! One of the highlights for me was this couple who actually made there little kid play that "potato guy" from the games for kids section and the kid was quite happy with it! At least 3 people made doubly sure that they got our website address correctly and conveyed to me that they would try some Linux. Lets see... Another hit thing was the concept of live Cd's even though we couldn't demonstrate it... There were many whose imagination just clung to this concept! Does anyone know what kind of a ram are we dealing with in here? I will bring along my SimplyMepis and Knoppix anyways... Now for some suggestions, even though I am pretty out of touch with all the discussion about this stall, so I dunno if this has been discussed, but 3 printouts saying "Linux here! Brought to you by ilug-cal (ilug-cal.org)" os something on those lines would be pretty nice unless amar pc has some unreasonable objections to that!" Oh and someone please make that Suse pick up the graphics card or reduce the resolution or colour depth on that Suse or just make it more snappy! (I wish it was slack with dropline!:P) My tactic was simple. I just gave the interested person a freehand to the system. A lot of people seemed to find a hands on thingy impressive. A few of them were happy while a few complained that it was slow and I explained that the system had low ram! One gentleman clicked on OOorg a good 15 times and I could do nothing but logout and the stupid kde saved those 15 OOorg windows as the session state to throw them at me the next time I logged in... I now realize that opening a failsafe terminal and deleting .kde would have done the trick. Anyhow the only complain I had from a few of my audience was that a few things were darn slow. I think thats mainly because perhaps Suse is not picking up the graphics card and must be addressed asap! Palash, Prosun, et al did a great job with FC3... There PC was one really crowded place! I hope I am not saddled with any extra classes tomorrow. I will try and make it after 5.
