Oh! I am just back from Kgp. I searched a lot for you, Prosun but
didn't find you! Anyhow, RMS was at his typical best! Eccentric,
humorous and witty!

[*] He was presented a rose bouquet covered in clear plastic. He
insisted and made the Kgp student remove the plastic so that he could
smell the roses.

[*] He started by saying that he couldn't find an Internet connection
in IIT Kgp. The thing IIT Kgp calls an Internet connection, he said,
is useless because of the firewall! [humongous applause] (Sad but,
this is true. Internet anywhere in the IIT is so many proxies away
that it took me half an hour of tries and refreshes to get a simple
gmail to open!)

[*] RMS said that the IIT Kgp student who first sent him an invitation
used hotmail and it hence came with advertisements of a proprietary
software! (lol!)

[*] RMS said that patenting software is harmful for the society.

***
[*] "The only thing worse than an unauthorized copy of Windows XP is
an authorized copy of it!" - RMS!
***

[*] RMS argued that copying proprietary software should not be called
"piracy". Piracy is a derogatory word and according to him copying
proprietary software is a lesser evil than "not sharing it with your
neighbour". (Btw, I disagree!)

[*] And as usual, RMS made a huge point of Linux being only the kernel
and Gnu/Linux being the OS. (He's got a point there though... The GNU
philosophy certainly differs greatly from that of Linus's himself.)

[*] RMS also said that GNU should NOT be pronounced with a silent g.

[*] "If you are passing by a river, and you know how to swim and you
see a man drowning [pause] and that man is not Bush, [applause] you
have to save him!"

[*] (after putting on a halo and a robe) [he looked great!] "I am
Saint Ignusius of the Church of Emacs. I bless your computer." lol!

[*] He was asked if he had an option to kill Bush or Bill Gates, whom
would he kill... (uh, immature question, imho). He answered saying
that he doesnt support capital punishment, but Bush should spend the
rest of his life in jail. Also, if any of Bush or Gates died he
wouldnt shed a tear!

[*] RMS said he is an aethist. He said that anyone who takes any
religion whatsoever too seriously is harmful to the society.

"The only thing worse than an unauthorized copy of Windows XP, is
an authorized copy of it!" -RMS

That will be my signature at a lot of forums now!

On the whole, RMS was well received. I do disagree with his
philosophy in a few places and I find him a bit too extreme for my
tastes, but he was great!
