thank you .. once its on a website, all will be able to see, read
and spread his msg far and wide

for info of all members :

RMS was extremely friendly

i've not been able to post earlier a bit of history which was made

dr. nagarjuna g. was very active during this visit. so were us all.

after many hours of talking to dr.N the welcoming of RMS at
airport on his landing was set aside. also put off was the idea
of meeting him in the morning of next day by those who wanted to

dr.N put forward an idea (detailed in earlier email) which led
to a meeting at webel guest house. compass prez authorised
hemant to go for the discussions. result was the inclusion of
compass name as those with whom fsf.org.in is working for
furthering its cause. also decided at that discussion was the
idea of participation in the meeting at IT Dept. saugata was
also informed. he was to bring along ankur bangla cd and
come to IT dept office.

before leaving, i met RMS. he was happy and friendly.
on learning about T's marriage, he expressed the hope
that marrying would not lessen T's commitment to fsf.
when RMS consented to 'blessing' the newly weds,
i called up T but got mrs.T on the other end. RMS
had virtually little time. yet he showered blessings
and gave advice to mrs.T

i told him about the zero budget initiative on helping
VT's (victims of tsunami). he had his own comments
on the relief/rehab NOT happening properly and on'
how relief/rehab is implemented poorly.

i told him about the forthcoming compass2005 event
and requested him to be there thru internet. he agreed.
he will be in south america at that time. i suggested an
interactive q&a participation. he okay'ed that. then
the issue of not good bandwitdth came up. i proposed
using the ancient tech, telephone, and that was easy
to say yes to. he is to be called up. (we now need a
sponsor for the connection of about an hour every
day for 5 days)

we left for the IT Dept meeting

on the way down, i was chatting with RMS and
found out that his stickers were were not enough
for his trip. i offered to help. RMS said he will
send the digital image so that printing can be done.

on the driveway, it was bright sunlight. for the
records and for reporting to compass we requested
and got a snap in the 3D camera which i was
carrying.

we moved in separate cars.

we arrived a few minutes late. T called up to
be sure that it was RMS who 'blessed' the mrs. T
i confirmed that it was. on his requst to talk to RMS
i asked to hold on and went about locating. T was
lucky, and i got RMS to congratulate T thru cellphone

then there were some movements which are off-list
for understandable reasons. at the end of it all, i got
honourable minister to put his autograph on sdg's
FIRST burn of ankur bangla cd pointing out that
it had been authenticated by sdg himself. that done,
i requested RMS to do the same. he did. done !

end of history being made.

in the evening i got a call from dr.N for help. the
laptop of RMS was not co-operating. calling up
a few people, we could organize a spare/new
laptop (courtesy RH) and also for a repairman
from IBM to go to RMS. lots of cross talk btwn
dr.N, RMS, RH, IBM, me, hemant resulted in
a simple solution. sudip (IT promotion cell guy)
would carry the faulty laptop to IBM next day
morning. IBM would repair it on top priority.
backup laptop would be delivered to RMS.
failing repair in time for his departure the next
day, his laptop would be sent to delhi by RH
guys and would be handed over to RMS
before he departs from delhi. the backup laptop
would be taken back and sent to calcutta.

dr.N was to get back with decision. since there
was no call. we believed that things were sorted out.

next day i called up dr.N to learn that they left
for kgp pronto and at 2am in the night, the
laptop went live ! so thank you for the help.

his lecture was over. i put in a request for fans
to see off RMS at dum dum. dr.N was to confirm
from concerned people and call back. there was
very little time btwn 1pm (then) and 5pm (departure
time). yet attempting was in order. this i did.
something prevented this 'happening' and so
i couldn't do anything. sorry.

end of telling.

comments :

other OS'es are unable to
address the needs of so many demands,
from sooo many users and user groups
and gnu-linux and linux do fill in those needs.

(like desktop localisation in
ALL indian languages, scientific applications,
geographic apps, audio/video editing, mp3
apps, etc, and all these for free of charge,
copyright, restrictions)

therefore, we are mere observers of
metamorphosis and evolution of user
habits. things are happening. we see.
we go along.

there is no competition any more.
there is compLetion of one by
the other

all have their niches. and followers.

many have to work as per needs
of employers. which includes working
on unix, oracle, NOS, MacOs, etc

future is as unpredicatble as ever

we will be seeing it unfold.

time has come to accept, tolerate,
co-operate and bring indians in
particular and humans in general
a bit above from where they are now
