Usage: firefox-bin [ options ... ] [URL]
       where options include:
-height <value> Set height of startup window to <value>.
-width <value> Set width of startup window to <value>.

For a more complete list of options, try the firefox help.
firefox-bin -h or firefox-bin -help

There's an option in an extension called QuickTabPrefToggle

I am not sure if it will cure gmail though. Gmail, afaik, does not
use any 'a' tags for its links. It uses some javascript instead. Its
quite a pain.

Btw, though I use session saver daily, I havent used this one
recently. If this does cure the gmail new window habit, do tell me!

Another thing I will like to bring to your attention is that there are
quite a lot of tweakable settings in firefox that you can access
through typing "about:config" in you address bar.
