yes this should also have been the motto for the linuxbazar people. in
fact they also started distributing DVDs at a reasonable price. though
the price was twice of a magazine DVD, it was more dependable and the
list was complete with all the necessary things. magazines are famous
for their defective CD and DVDs along with incomplete sets of distros.
will you like to get the first DVD of debian surge, but have no chance
to get the second? i don't know if they were suffering loses. but as far
as their site said, they started the re-distribution business not for
making profit but towards the service of the community. so if they were
not making losses then their decision should be regarded as purely
personal. www.linuxcd.org is still there but only problem is that it is
situated outside India and international fund transfer is still not so
easy in this country. in fact i have found in the last five months that
there has been a drastic reduction in the interest among desktop users
in linux. a few reasons may be - availability of windows xp - newer
viruses are not formating the harddisk - people have CD-Rs handy for
data backup - resource hungry distros from fedora, mandrake, suse - less
number of games and multimedia software on linux - open office is still
a white elephant - government policy of promoting windows in schools -
pirated software suppliers are not literate enough about linux - so and
so. but for me it will be a search for a new cd re-distribution site
again. i still don't know from where to by the open office 2 cds in
india though i badly need them. i will have the find one ...
