Hi,

I'm starting a new thread based on Saugata's post referring to
collection of ~Rs.75,000 for COMPASS-2005 participation. Assuming that
we *can manage* to collect Rs. 75,000 then :

[1] We can have a 4-day presence at COMPASS, and go home happy at our
collective achievement.

[2] Fund our way to hold regular meetings by :

(a) Pay @ Rs. 1000/1500 towards booking a seminar hall with 100+ seating
capacity at JU or else-where (or even lower if we do a block booking for
a year (12 sessions) = Rs. 30,000

(b) Pay @ Rs. 2000 for an LCD projector (assuming it doesn't come with
the seminar hall amenities) for 12 sessions = Rs. 24,000

(c) Arrange for refreshments at meetings @ Rs 10/per head (assuming 100
member presence) at the max total cost per session of Rs. 1000. For 12
sessions = Rs. 12,000

(d) About Rs. 1200 (towards misc expense incl tips etc for
drivers/darwans/bearers etc) @ Rs. 120 / month

Leaves us with a expense budget of Rs. 67,200 and a cash surplus of Rs.
7,800

This surplus could be used to fund an ANNUAL LUG DAY or similar program
catering to a wider audience, or organising a Picnic/outing for the LUG
members.

Other ways of using the cash surplus would be to reimburse the
out-of-pocket expenses of the volunteers who would go to different
schools to take our Outreach program to young students. Catch them
young!

[3] Donate the entire fund towards publication of the wonderful book
"GNU/Linux Ishkool" written in Bangla by our member Prof. Dipankar Das.
The book hasn't been published due to an acute shortage of funds.

These are just a few thoughts I had while reading Saugata's mail.

cheers,
-indra
