For students, it should be basically an awareness program for lower classes. And we should be able to generate interest. Rather than making computer science a nightmare subject.
It is written more on ubuntu. Why concentrate on one distro. Teach OS and give ubuntu as an example of GNU/Linux distro. Teaching them Ubuntu makes them feel that Ubuntu is an operating system, which is not, but a distro. I do not think it will be a good idea to give introductions of OS in 3rd standard. Yes two or three will be able to pick it up. But what about the others and what about the teaching plan? So let us concentrate more on programs, i mean simple softwares. I heard that there is some programming language called logo. Teach them the basics, to build the logic of programming. Make them do maximum 4 or 5 programs in lower classes than learning 10-15. That makes learning easy. LOGO BASIC and let us not think of python in class 6. That will make it complicated, they are really small kids. Only very few will be able to pick it up. My cousin is studying in Mumbai and he is following the state syllabus there, the text book is full of illustrations. And that too in 9th standard. But that is the correct way, rather than giving big text books from 6std onwards. I think we have to redraft the syllabus. A good discussion will do it. -- Anoop Jacob Thomas --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ "Freedom is the only law".
