Yes, I also have similar experiences. I had in the past downloaded the DVD
versions of Hardy and Intrepid, thinking the dvds will contain more
softwares. But i learned that dvds contain mostly additional (useless )
language packs in addition to the CD content and whenever i tried installing
additional softwares using synaptic the dvd was uselesss and the pakages
were installed from online repositories. realizing the futility of DVD
download, this time i am happy with the 700MB cd iso of jaunty.
Even more diappointing thing about jaunty is that it altogether
scrapped ppp and wvdial packages, leaving dial-up users in a lurch (but
supports cdma evdo cards out of the box in addition to broadband
connections.) For a gprs user like me, jaunty gives a hard time to get the
internet up and running.So i had to depend on win xp to download wvdial and
each dependent package and going back to ubuntu to install it encountering a
lot of dependency errors. Finally i succeeded.
