@Binny Linux Mint is optimized for gnome. You better try KDE with distributions that default with KDE. I am using KDEmod 4.3.2 and I do not have any problem as you suggested. Everything works fine.
@Saral for net configuring, use wicd network manager. Its easy and its native for KDE. to use Malayalam, its very simple. Start Menu > System settings > General > Regional & Language (in Personal) > Country/Region & Language > here default might be US English. Add Malayalam too as second option. take Keyboard Layout in Layout > enable Keyboard Layouts (its a radio button) Indicator options > Show country Flag in Available layouts, select India, select mapping in for inscript and variant mal with label ml for Malayalam Now take Switching options. I do not remember the default option. Any way, click on the Global shortcuts radio button, and in Alternative shortcuts, you could well change the switching shortcut to Ctrl+Space. That would be lot easier. Leave Main shortcuts and 3rd level shortcuts and None. Apply the changes and exit. If you are using command line options, give the command setxkbmap -model pc104 -layout us,in -variant ,mal --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ "Freedom is the only law".
