All free software projects were born out of somebody's need to scratch
an itch.. All of them have a purpose that they fulfill. Startgina
free software project just for the heck of it migh work for sometime
but would die out eventually. Thousands of dead projects in
sourceforge testifies this. There is no justification for starting
something simply because you want to do a project. A coordinated
effort in contributing to existing free software projects which needs
people will help immensly. KDE and GNOME are always in need of people
- try contributing to them. For people who are into system
programming, try Haiku. There is no dearth of projects if you really
want to contribute.
