    sudo dpkg-reconfigure locales


    Try the gui first.  It's less prone to error.

Sorry to say that the line ml_IN UTF-8 is already there in local file

The /file/ ml needs to be in there as well as the supporting files in /usr/lib/locale/ml_IN. I've attached the required file in the earlier email.

So, changing locale to en_US and reinstalling Malayalam from Language support should do the trick.
