Apparently there are two ways to get back your Ubuntu Classic. You have to install either one of the following packages. 1. sudo apt-get install gnome-panel 2. sudo apt-get install gnome-session-fallback
After installing any one of the above package, logout and then select Gnome Classic from the gear menu as shown below and *voilà *you have your favorite desktop!
