I have done the same thing in Linux Mint. It is quite easy to do and hardly requires any specialised knowledge. Actually, just click the "Create New Wireless Network" in the menu and fill in a couple of details, such as a name for the connection and a key which will be required for activating the connection. The wifi is created and then you can connect your other computers or mobile phones giving the key. Really simple to do! Best, Sasi -- V.
