Hi, I had the same problem with my old chipset. Then i had this /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, which stores the confign for xserver. But in later versions of ubuntu, they no more uses such a file. try http://sourceforge.net/projects/xorg-edit/ which creates an /etc/X11/xorg.conf and then u can manualy edit it in VIM or any other editors
