Thanks for the tip.  Looks like most customizations are for the
SSD, and I have the 160GB (spinning-rust) HDD.

This gives me enough confidence to try Lenny.

This is a deal breaker for me as I'm a heavy Skype user.  The built-in
webcam is also something I'm using effectively now.

I installed the latest BIOS from the Acer website -- I did it using the
Windows utility rather than booting from USB.  After BIOS upgrade,
the laptop kept automatically powering off after ~30s of start up
and my OS could not complete booting.  I had to enter the new
BIOS and load the defaults and then my laptop started working
correctly.  The tricky bit was that it had to be done before the
laptop powered off automatically.  Hope this helps someone.
