this looks like a forum to me. I have noticed that the open source world is
not to big on forums. Mailing lists and IRC are the main methods of
communication. The problem with mailing lists is that everyone gets every
mail, and it requires a fair knowledge of etiquette to make threads
understandable. Further, as some one said in this list - one mans signal is
another mans noise.

In a forum one can pick and choose the threads one wants to follow. One can go
back and edit/delete ones posts. Others could also edit/delete posts. If a
forum has good membership, a knowledge base can be built up - and maybe a good
community too. BUT the open source world is too impatient - we want solutions
_now_. We believe in commit early commit often. We tend to throw out half
baked ideas and solutions, passionately debate them and move on. We do not
insist that every post be completely researched, well thought out and complete
in every detail. We feel that completeness will evolve through discussion and
experimentation. So a mailing list often looks very
confused/chaotic/undisciplined. That is the way open source works.

In mailing lists dedicated to a project, there is more focus and a clear line
between on topic and off topic. This is not true of a generalised mailing list
like this. There are hundreds of types of people here with very varied
backgrounds and interests. So obviously there will be a lot of 'noise'. I know
many people are longing for a good firm admin to keep discipline. I have seen
lug lists like this - they are all dying or dead.
