Hi, everyone, It's rather hard to use Ubuntu in college because the insti connection is incredibly slow. I would like to mirror the Ubuntu amd64 repositories (main, restricted, universe, multiverse) on my own hard disk in such a way that it can be added as a repository by my friends over the LAN and used.
A little searching has led me to apt-mirror, debmirror and using rsync to mirror. Unfortunately, most documentation is from early 2007 and I don't know if everything listed is entirely accurate. rsync is pretty much out of the question since I intend to only mirror the amd64 repositories, but I'm not sure which among apt-mirror and debmirror is better to use. Since the repositories are some 30 GB in size, I can't just try both and see. I have a few questions: 1. Which of the two methods should I use? 2. Is there modern documentation for both programs or has the usage not changed? 3. I will be checking with a couple of local internet cafés to see if they will download this for me. How much would be a good rate? 4. Is there an alternative way of obtaining these repositories with versions available now? Perhaps someone has already done this? 5. Can DVD repositories be converted in a simple manner to a single repository? -- Regards, Roshan George <[email protected]> -- Regards, Roshan George <[email protected]> _______________________________________________ To unsubscribe, email [email protected] with "unsubscribe <password> <address>" in the subject or body of the message. http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
