Not recommended for performance reasons. Atom chipsets are limited to 2GB RAM, and CPU has 512KB cache and dual cores only. Atom has severely limited PCI bandwidth compared to Xeons. I'm not aware of any Atom build which offers redundancy for power supplies, hardware RAID cards, NICs, etc. A Xeon CPU system can be populated with 192GB RAM, 8 cores per socket, and has 12MB cache. It also has on board DRAM controllers with high bandwidth interconnect to RAM. You also get plenty off PCIe lanes for connecting high speed devices like FC HBAs, NICs, RAID cards, etc. In the end, it depends on your requirement. For minimal usage and no high availability requirements, an Atom should be fine. > Also will it be possible to install and configure asterix in it with some > smaller extensions. As long as you are not transcoding between different codecs in real time, you should be fine with an Atom. See nerdvittles.com for software, hardware specs for SOHO Asterisk requirements. - Raja _______________________________________________ ILUGC Mailing List: http://www.ae.iitm.ac.in/mailman/listinfo/ilugc
