Hi,
From the student's point of view, and as a student myself, cutting of
internet access totally is very restrictive, and more harmful than having
unmetered access. In this era of internet, its use and mis-use is one's one
responsibility. I think that monitoring the system's activity remotely using
VNC, or logging internet usage would be a good idea, as the concept of logging
and monitoring deters much unwanted behavior. I would also suggest using a DNS
based blocking system, like openDNS.
P.S: Remember, Linux is not Windows, and users are not supposed to be logged in
as root, and student's do not need sudo privileges normally.
