Freelancing is not everyone's cup of coffee. And you are right its not
always about money. Its also about time. Its the experience and how much you
enjoy it!

My recommendation is give it a shot when you still can. Start with one
client on a small project. If you like it make it two. And then three.

No advise can replace real experience. So just start and go for it.
