I would recommend you try *Tamil 99*..

It is very simple and Easy to learn and adapt....

Personally,  I would not recommend learning phonetic keyboard. It kills our
Language Tamil and makes us type in Tanglish!!
Just imagine...
It is horrible to type as "wEngka thamiz pEsupavarA?" for " நீங்க தமிழ்
பேசுபவரா?"
